Safety
Adherence to the following rules is
necessary for your health and safety, and for class discipline and
teaching.
Personal
- No rings, watches, earrings, bracelets,
necklaces or other jewelry will be worn.
- Do not chew gum, eat food or candy, or
bring drinks other than water into the dojo.
- Keep finger and toe nails short.
- Wear clothing that is clean and in good
repair, and maintain a clean body.
- Profanity, foul language, or any sign of
disrespect will not be tolerated.
- Unless otherwise instructed, do not lean
against walls, lie on the mat, or sit improperly.
- Horseplay will not be tolerated.
- Do not eat at least 1 hour prior to class
(2 hours preferred). Avoid foods with tomato sauce or high fat/oil
content.
- Treat your training partner in the same
manner you would like to be treated.
- Never display anger, bad temper,
criticize, or ridicule others.
- Before practicing kicking and punching
techniques, make sure the knees, ankles, elbows, wrists and shoulders are
well warmed up.
- To prevent joint damage, avoid kicking or
punching "the air" with power and speed.
- Know the location of the First Aid kit and
emergency phone numbers (hospital, ambulance, doctor, police).
- Take care of minor injuries before they
become major ones.
- All bleeding should be reported to the
instructor.
- Participants should have regular physical
examinations.
Training
- Be on time. Failure to arrive on time for
class is a show of disrespect to the instructor and to your partner.
- Pay strict attention to the
instructor.
- Warm-up and cool-down periods are vital to
prevent muscle and joint injuries.
- Giving way is not a sign of weakness,
being macho is.
- Do not misuse your martial arts knowledge,
inside or outside the Dojo.
- Avoid practicing any technique that has
not been formally taught.
- Never use a technique that is beyond your
capabilities.
- Exercise caution when applying throws,
joint locks and neck restraints.
- When throwing, control and assist your
partner to break fall.
- Forceful bending, wrenching or twisting
joints must be avoided.
- All competition or sparring should be
approved and supervised.
- Use control when sparring or
applying techniques.
Dojo
- Take proper care of the Dojo's
equipment and mats. Keep your dojo in good repair.
- Make sure safety equipment, and mats are
in good repair before practicing.
Failure to comply with these rules may result
in being dismissed from the practice, being asked to sit on the sidelines,
or performing additional exercises.
