PeopleSafe^® is dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves in an every increasingly dangerous society. 

While serving on an economic impact committee in the early 1980’s, PeopleSafe^® founder Phil Rasmussen observed that the expanding growth of Charlotte, NC and Mecklenburg County was accompanied by a increasing rate of assaults against women and children. Correspondingly, disciplinary problems in the local school system were also increasing, as were workplace violence incidents.

During this same time, Mr. Rasmussen also noted that as effective as they were, the martial arts that he had been teaching adults and children for almost 20 years were not sufficient against criminals who were also studying the same arts. As a result, Mr. Rasmussen expanded his own studies of the martial arts in search of reliable techniques that could be easily and quickly learned.

In 1990, the development of specific self-defense programs for women and children started to take shape. By the mid-90’s, programs in workplace violence prevention and law enforcement defensive tactics were developed and all of the programs were brought together under a single umbrella called PeopleSafe^® .

Our PeopleSafe^® programs are unique in that each program covers both self-defense and self-protection. The programs are also reviewed and updated regularly in order to provide the most current information and techniques.
